No, they wear these clothes not to be ready at a moment s notice to head out to the real country, they wear these clothes as a form of conspicuous consumption. They are saying: see, I don t need to dress in old haut bourgeois weekend casual clothes, because I go out to Aspen (or Park City, or some other far off trendy place) and this is what I would be wearing if I were there. I bought this hoodie mainly for working out and running which is why I like the fact that s its a little loose, giving me that freedom in mobility. Even though I use it to workout, I also wear it just as an everyday hoodie and it also looks great. Love the colors! ... read more

Another important thing (if not the most important thing) to look for when choosing fabric for your clothing projects is the weight . Fabric weight means how thick/heavy a fabric is, and the weight you choose depends on what you are making and the feel you want for your garment. It's a personal choice, but it also has to be practical. The different weights can be referred to as top-weight, bottom-weight, very light, light, medium and heavy.

De Magalhaes and Gladyshev are under no illusions about the arduous journey but they remain hopeful. History is full of claims by experts that certain advances are impossible, only to be proven wrong soon after, says de Magalhaes. Consider the state of medicine just 120 years ago, when some of today s bowhead whales were still in their infancy. Back then life-threatening infections were just a fact of life. If you know how to sew you can make your own clothes and do clothing alterations. With the availability of inexpensive clothes and the cost of fabric, you may not save a lot of money by sewing trousers, for example. The big advantage to sewing your own clothes is that you can let your creativity go wild, creating your own styles and fabric combinations. A learn-to-sew DVD can teach you how to make clothing that fits great and shows your individuality.dresses for less

The impressively muscular Otto Olympier, his picture taken by an uncredited photographer and published as a postcard. Not intended to be sent home from a holiday as we mostly use them today, but for those who collected the cards as a hobby; images of strongmen and bodybuilders seem to have been a popular subject, judging by the amount which have survived to this day.

A different sort of solo portrait than featured before, this cabinet card from the 1890s shows an impressively muscular fellow proudly displaying his Sandow medal, sadly without a caption of his own name.

Georg Lurich, unusual among early strongmen in having his photograph published fully nude on occasion, rather than always discretely covered up (either in the studio, or with a little later editing before printing), as was the norm.

Having last seen the mighty Sandow in motion, I thought you may like a still image to enjoy - here he is being carefully posed by the studio team (and given a jolly odd look by the chap on the right!)

A final image in my unintended theme of vintage strongmen tonight, photographed by Emile Bayard in 1902. This picture is especially noteworthy not just for the outlandish shape in which it has been mounted, but also the strange arrangement to preserve his modesty - a stylised fig leaf, perhaps, but the attachment leaves room for the mind to ponder : how is he holding it there? Somehow the possibility of clenched buttocks gripping the wire support brings an unintentional amusement to the scene!
